Freedom by nature

Wine not?

Time for a wine trip! We’re heading to Croatia this time. While there are some beautiful spots to see in the middel and Southern part, we' will be staying at the Northern part: Istria, the Croatian highlands.

Winery and design hotel Roxanich

“Freedom by nature”, is the oneliner Roxanich uses to point out their venue. It’s a winery, a design hotel and a fine dining restaurant in one, located at the medieval town Motovun. Motovun is a small town with only 500 citizens, all living at the top of a hill, 270 meters above sea level. I think this must be the most picturesque town of Northern Croatia. It’s almost as walking into a fairytale.

Roxanich is situated just at the foot of the hill. An original design hotel with a raw appearance. The winery is specialized in organic wines, divided in three selections: Philosophy, Sorelle and First Roses. We get to taste everything during our extensive wine tasting, a real must when staying here. We got to know everything about the (family) hotel and the unique wines Roxanich offers.

The restaurant is said to be a ‘zero-kilometer cuisine’, which means the menu is made up entirely and solely of local, organic products. Since in principle, Roxanich is a winery, the chef at the restaurant creates the dishes based on the wines. That makes a tasting very interesting. All ingredients make different aspects of the wine pop out even more.

If you ask me, this is the #1 hotel to go to when staying in Istria, finest wine region of Croatia.
